Pacifica House is the only short-term inpatient hospice facility in North County San Diego, designed for patients who need intensive, around-the-clock care to manage pain or symptoms. With just six private rooms, the environment is peaceful, intimate, and deeply supportive — for both the patient and their loved ones.
Located in a quiet Carlsbad neighborhood, Pacifica House offers the expertise of 24/7 medical staff in a home-like setting, so patients can receive the care they need and, when possible, return to the comfort of home.

Is Inpatient Hospice Care the Right Fit?
Pacifica House is for hospice patients who need specialized medical attention that cannot be safely or effectively provided at home.
Common reasons for admission include:
- Severe pain requiring frequent medication adjustment
- Respiratory distress or breathing complications
- Uncontrolled nausea, vomiting, or agitation
- Imminent passing with uncontrolled symptoms
- Complicated medical needs (suctioning, seizures, fluid buildup)
All patients must be certified as eligible for hospice (a terminal diagnosis and life expectancy of 6 months or less, confirmed by two physicians).

What integrative therapies are available for hospice patients?
Integrative therapies may include music therapy, Healing Touch, reflexology, Reiki, pet therapy, and aromatherapy. These therapies complement traditional hospice care and are tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
Does Hospice of the North Coast provide grief support for family members?
Yes. Through the Hope Bereavement Center, grief support includes weekly support groups, counseling for adults, teens, and children, and ongoing bereavement communication and resources for families following a loss.
Is spiritual care available if I’m not religious?
Yes. Spiritual care is available regardless of religious beliefs. The spiritual care team provides a supportive space for reflection, connection, and emotional comfort while honoring each person’s individual beliefs, values, and sources of meaning.
